The Woodsman, a twist on the famous character from L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, will return to 59E59 Theaters next year following a sold-out run at the same venue in January 2014. The production will play a January 13-February 22 engagement in Theater B.

Written by James Ortiz and directed by Ortiz and Claire Karpen, the play with music (by Edward W. Hardy and Jennifer Loring) tells the story of the lonely Tin Woodsman of Oz, who must embark on a journey to protect the love of his life from the evil Wicked Witch of the East.

The cast of nine will include Ben Bass, Will Gallacher, Alex J. Gould, Lauren Nordvig, James Ortiz, Eliza Simpson, Meghan St. Thomas, and Sophia Zukoski, with composer/violinist Hardy providing onstage accompaniment. The creative team includes Liz Lundberg (scenic design), Molly Seidel (costume design), Catherine Clark (lighting design), Adam Salberg (sound design), and James Ortiz (puppet design).

Strangemen & Co. produce this engagement of The Woodsman in association with Robb Nanus and Rachel Sussman.
