The event will feature eight world premieres by Lee Blessing, Ellen McLaughlin, Matt Barbot, Dipika Guha, Stephen Massicotte, Jason Gray Platt, Aubrey Saverino, and Matthew Wells. Each year, Red Bull Theater selects "new works of heightened language and classical themes" from over 300 submissions and commission two for the Short New Plays Festival. Inspired this year by the theme "Uncontrolled Passions," this year's writers have delivered "wildly diverse tales, catapulting classical theater into the future."

Red Bull Theater aims to "engage the intellect and imagination of today's theatergoers through intimate and evocative stagings of great classic stories from all eras and cultures."
