Is there a new Pee-wee Herman movie on deck? So says the infamous character's creator, Paul Reubens.

"There’s going to be a big announcement any minute now," the performer told Rolling Stone in an interview regarding new Pee-wee's Playhouse Blu-ray release."It’s been months and months of being right on the verge of being announced…But I’m thinking there will be something made public very soon. It’s going to get made shortly after the new year."

Reubens last brought the Pee-wee Herman character back in a 2010 run on Broadway in The Pee-Wee Herman Show at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. Directed by Alex Timbers, that production featured a script by Reubens and Bill Steinkellner. It was later broadcast on HBO.

This would be the third film in the Pee-wee Herman franchise; the first, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure was released in 1985, the second, Big Top Pee-Wee, hit theaters in 1988. Pee-Wee's Playhouse ran on CBS from 1986-90.
