After acclaimed runs at the Marriott Theatre in Chicago and Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, October Sky will receive a developmental lab in New York October 23-November 10.

Inspired by both Joe Johnston's 1999 film of the same name and Homer H. Hickam Jr.'s memoir Rocket Boys, the musical tells the story of a West Virginia high school student who enters a rocketry competition against the wishes of his domineering, practical-minded dad. With the help of his friends and the local community, he just might light up the night.

Directed and choreographed by Rachel Rockwell, the musical features a book by Brian Hill (The Story of My Life) and Aaron Thielen, and music and lyrics by Michael Mahler (Miss Saigon). The creative team includes Charlie Alterman (music director) and Tara Rubin Casting (casting). Richard/Climan, Inc. is general manager.

Casting is now in progress. According to a press release, "the casting notice strongly encourages actors of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds to attend and be submitted."
