NYMF Announces Final Production List

The New York Musical Festival (NYMF) has announced its final selections for the 2017 season. Now in its 14th year, the 2017 Festival will take place from July 10-August 6 at locations around midtown Manhattan. Dan Markley serves as NYMF executive director and producer, and Rachel Sussman serves as director of programming and artist services.

The selections include productions of The Cadaver Synod: A Pope Musical (book, music, and lyrics by Robbie Florian) and Matthew McConaughey vs. the Devil: An American Myth (book by Emilie Landmann and Carrie Morgan, music by Jonathan Quesenberry, lyrics by Carrie Morgan and Jonathan Quesenberry), as well as readings of 2000 Nickels: A Vietnam Legacy (book by Margaret Brochu; music and lyrics by John Brochu); Christmas in Hell (book, music, and lyrics by Gary Apple); and Fora (book, music, and lyrics by Jae Antoinette Broderick).

The lineup of concert performances includes Happily: The Musical (book by Livi Perrone, music by Sean P. Pallatroni, lyrics by Sean P. Pallatroni and Livi Perrone); Camp Wanatachi (book by Bekah Brunstetter and Natalie Elizabeth Weiss, music by Natalie Elizabeth Weiss and Travis Stewart, lyrics by Natalie Elizabeth Weiss); Qing Cheng/Dark City (book, music, and lyrics by Daniel Walker); and How the Light Gets In: An Evening of New American Micro-Musical Works (Music and Lyrics by Ty Defoe and Tidtaya Sinutoke; Lelund Durond Thompson and Jason Michael Webb; Ryan Scott Oliver and Nessie Nankivell).

The calendar also includes Women on Note, a concert series that celebrates female, queer, and trans artists who are changing the landscape of musical theater, as well as the NYMF Student Leadership Program (SLP), which concludes with a concert written and performed by students.

Special events slated for 2017 NYMF additionally include Auditioning for the Musical Theater, led by Michael Cassara, CSA; Song Interpretation Masterclass, led by Jenn Colella (Come From Away); and Expanding Representations of Gender Identity and Sexuality on Stage, a panel created in partnership with Honest Accomplice Theatre.
