Born in 1976 in Union County, North Carolina, Park attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. He moved to New York by the early 2000s and kick-started his career by starring opposite Kristen Bell in the short Broadway run of Ken Ludwig and Don Schlitz's Tom Sawyer, directed by Scott Ellis. The performance earned him a Theatre World Award. At Connecticut's Westport Country Playhouse, Park starred in a Walter Dallas-directed 2002 production of Athol Fugard's Master Harold… and the Boys. In 2006, Park took on the title role in Stephen Schwartz and Roger O. Hirson's classic coming-of-age musical Pippin at Connecticut's Goodspeed Opera House, helmed by Gabriel Barre.

In 2010, Park appeared in A Christmas Memory at Palo Alto, California's TheaterWorks. The musical, which featured a book by Duane Poole, music by Larry Grossman, and lyrics by Carol Hall, was based on the story by Truman Capote and directed by Robert Kelley.
