Naked Angels Offer Benefit Concert to Preview Folk Concert Play SeaWife

The downtown theater company Naked Angels will present Songs at the Seaport, a benefit concert featuring selections from the folk concert play SeaWife, cocreated by Seth Moore (The Man With American Skin) and indie-folk rock sextet The Lobbyists.

The benefit will be held Monday, November 17, in the historic Melville Gallery at South Street Seaport Museum and will feature performances by The Lobbyists with encore sets by The Humble Grapes, Stephanie Hsu, and Jeanna Phillips. Proceeds will go toward the development of SeaWife, aiming to debut in New York City in the 2015-16 season.

Inspired by a collection of 19th-century nautical literature, SeaWife follows Percy, a young sailor bred within the golden age of the American whaling industry. As he embarks on a journey through port cities and sea vessels, he discovers man’s propensity to love and conquer. The piece is developed within Naked Angels' 3-Step Formula by Liz Carlson, who also directs.
