The controversial solo play My Name Is Rachel Corrie returns to New York City for the first time in nine years this April for a limited run at Culture Project's Lynn Redgrave Theater. Performances will run from April 2-12.

On March 16, 2003, Rachel Corrie, a 23-year-old American, was killed in Gaza as she was trying to prevent the demolition of a Palestinian home. Composed from Rachel’s own journals, letters, and e-mails (edited by Alan Rickman and Katharine Viner), My Name Is Rachel Corrie creates a portrait of "a messy, articulate, Salvador Dali-loving chain-smoker (with a passion for the music of Pat Benatar), who left her home and school in Olympia, Washington, to work as an activist in the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict." Charlotte Hemmings will perform the piece. Jonathan Kane directs.

"I am so excited to bring this amazing story of a young woman that paid the ultimate price for literally standing up for what she believed in," said Kane. "This play seems even more timely now as the divides in our society continue to plague us."

On April 10, Rachel Corrie’s birthday, there will be a benefit performance for the Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace and Justice. The show will be followed by a Q&A with Corrie's family.

The creative team will include Linda Hartinian (set design), Lucrecia Briceno (lighting design), Eamonn Farrel (sound and video design), and Bill Raymond (assistant director).
