Broadway's Million Dollar Quartet May Be Adapted for Television
The 2010 Broadway musical Million Dollar Quartet may be adapted into a television series, according to Deadline. Thinkfactory Media would produce the eight-episode show, which is set to begin production this spring, for CMT.
Inspired by a true story in which Elvis Presley united with Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins for a recording session, Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux's Million Dollar Quartet features numerous hits made famous by the four performers. Songs include "Blue Suede Shoes," "Fever," "Walk the Line," "Sixteen Tons," "Who Do You Love?," "Great Balls of Fire," "Folsom Prison Blues," "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On," and "Hound Dog."
In 2010, Million Dollar Quartet was nominated for Tony Awards for Best Musical and Best Book of a Musical, while Levi Kreis' turn as Jerry Lee Lewis won him the Tony for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. The show was also a 2010 Drama Desk Award nominee for Outstanding Musical Revue. The Broadway opening-night cast also featured Eddie Clendening, Lance Guest, Rob Lyons, Hunter Foster, and Elizabeth Stanley.
Thinkfactory Media previously produced CMT's Hatfields & McCoys.
