Matthew Broderick Will Keep Headlining Broadway's It's Only a Play

Broderick is set to stick around to head the cast with Martin Short.

Tony Award winner Matthew Broderick has extended his contract with Broadway’s It's Only a Play and will join new star Martin Short to head the cast when the comedy moves to the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on January 19. The production currently plays the Schoenfeld Theatre, where it will run through January 18.

Broderick continues in the role of playwright Peter Austin, with Short taking on the role of James Wicker from Nathan Lane, who departs the production on January 4. The ensemble play, written by Terrence McNally, also includes F. Murray Abraham, Stockard Channing, Rupert Grint, Megan Mullally, and Micah Stock

Directed by Jack O'Brien, It's Only a Play follows a group of theater professionals as they await the reviews of a new Broadway production at the show's opening-night party. The production officially opened on October 9.
