Lapham’s Quarterly has announced that its annual gala, the Decades Ball: The 1780s, will take place June 1 at Gotham Hall. The gala celebrates the 80th birthday of Lewis Lapham, who established the literary magazine in 2007.

The evening will feature readings and performances that highlight voices from the era. Performers include Kevin Kline reading Richard Brinsley Sheridan, Jonathan Groff reprising his role as King George III in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway-bound Hamilton, Mary-Louise Parker reading an excerpt from Choderlos de Laclos’s Dangerous Liaisons, F. Murray Abraham reading from the journals of William Maclay, Dakin Matthews, reading two of Benjamin Franklin’s letters, and Julia Bullock singing Mozart. Oskar Eustis, artistic director of the Public Theater, will emcee the evening.

In addition, the Folio Society will present the Janus Prize to the Pulitzer Prize-winning author Stacy Schiff, introduced by Elinor Lipman.
