Terrence McNally's star-packed comedy It's Only a Play has become the first play of the 2014-15 Broadway season to recoup its investment — a $3.9 million capitalization according to producers Tom Kirdahy, Roy Furman, and Ken Davenport.

The production, which follows a company of actors, producers, and the like through the after-party of a Broadway opening night, opened at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on October 9 and has been breaking box office records ever since. The production recently had its best week, with a gross of $1,424,039, setting a new house record at the Schoenfeld — the third record-breaking number of its run.

"We are delighted that Broadway audiences have embraced the laughter and hijinks of It’s Only A Play," said Kirdahy. "We knew, with Terrence, Jack, and this phenomenal cast, we had something special, but these results exceeded our expectations."

The cast currently stars Matthew Broderick, Nathan Lane, F. Murray Abraham, Stockard Channing, Rupert Grint, Megan Mullally, and Micah Stock. Beginning January 7, 2015, the cast will welcome Tony and Emmy winner Martin Short, two-time Tony winner Katie Finneran, and 30 Rock alum Maulik Pancholy, who will take on the roles currently held by Lane, Mullally, and Grint, respectively.

The production is set to run through March 29, 2015, but is scheduled to move from the Schoenfeld next door to the Barnard B. Jacobs Theatre beginning January 23.
