It Shoulda Been You Will End Its Broadway Run

The new wedding-themed musical is written by Brian Hargrove and Barbara Anselmi.

It Shoulda Been You, the new Broadway musical by Brian Hargrove and Barbara Anselmi, will end its run at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on August 9. The musical, which began previews March 17 and opened April 14, will have played 31 preview performances and 135 regular performances., and received six Outer Critics Circle Award nominations.

Directed by Tony and Emmy winner David Hyde Pierce, the musical ran at the George Street Playhouse in 2011. It Shoulda Been You is described as "a culture clash for the ages" that follows two families who come together to celebrate a wedding.

Tyne Daly, Harriet Harris, Sierra Boggess, David Burtka, Lisa Howard, and Edward Hibbert lead the cast, alongside Steve Rosen, Montego Glover, Josh Grisetti, Michael X. Martin, Anne L. Nathan, Nick Spangler, and Chip Zien. Daly, Howard, and Grisetti received 2015 Drama Desk Award nominations for their performances.

The creative team for It Shoulda Been You includes Josh Rhodes (choreography), Anna Louizos (set design), William Ivey Long (costume design), Ken Billington (lighting design), and Nevin Steinberg (sound design), with additional lyrics by Jill Abramovitz, Carla Rose Fisher, Michael Cooper, Ernie Lijoi, and Will Randall.

It Shoulda Been You received Drama Desk Award nominations for Outstanding Leading Actress in a Musical (Lisa Howard), Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical (Tyne Daly), and Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical (Josh Grisetti).
