Foul-Mouthed Puppet Comedy Hand to God Will Come to Broadway

The dark comedy is set to transfer with its full MCC Theater cast intact.

Hand to God, the hit off-Broadway dark comedy that played runs at Ensemble Studio Theatre and MCC Theater, will make the leap to Broadway, playing a run at the Booth Theatre. Previews will begin March 12, with an opening scheduled for April 7.

Written by Robert Askins and directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel, Hand to God tells the story of Jason, a young member of the Christian Puppet Ministry in Cypress, Texas, whose life is thrown into chaos when Tyrone, his hand puppet, takes on a dangerous personality of his own.

The complete MCC Theater cast will join the Broadway production. The ensemble is made up of Steven Boyer as Jason/Tyrone, Geneva Carr as Margery, Marc Kudisch as Pastor Greg, Sarah Stiles as Jessica, and Michael Oberholtzer as Timmy.

The creative team for Hand to God includes scenic design by Beowulf Boritt, costumes by Sydney Maresca, lighting by Jason Lyons, sound by Jill BC Du Boff, puppet design by Marte Johanne Ekhougen, and fight directior by Robert Westley.
