Allegiance, a new musical by Marc Acito and Jay Kuo set during the period of Japanese-American internment in World War II, will make its long-awaited Broadway premiere at a Shubert Theatre to be announced beginning October 6. Opening night is set for November 8.

Directed by Stafford Arima (Carrie), Allegiance premiered in 2012 at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre, where it became the highest-grossing production in that theater's 77-year history.

Lorenzo Thione and Andrew Treagus serve as producers of the Broadway run. Acito pens the book along with Thione, with Kuo writing the music and lyrics.

Star Trek and social media legend George Takei will make his Broadway debut in the musical, which is inspired by his real-life childhood. The Old Globe production also starred Tony Award winner Lea Salonga and Telly Leung, though Takei is the only performer announced for the New York engagement.

Full casting and additional information will be announced in the coming months.
