Fun Home Cartoonist Alison Bechdel Reviews Fun Home Musical in New Animated Short

The new musical makes its Broadway debut this spring.

Alison Bechdel, whose graphic-novel memoir Fun Home inspired the new Broadway musical of the same title, wasn't sure how she would react when she saw the show for the first time at the Public Theater. After all, no matter how reliable writers Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron are, no matter how good the cast (led by Michael Cerveris and Sydney Lucas) is, it's really hard to watch a show about your own life, especially when the subject involves your father's death and coming to terms with your own sexuality.

To say that Bechdel enjoyed it is an understatement. She liked it so much that she drew her own cartoon review, that has now been turned into an animated short, narrated by Fun Home cast member Beth Malone. Check it out below.

Directed by Sam Gold, Fun Home begins performances at the Circle in the Square Theatre on March 27, with an official opening night set for April 19.
