Flashback Friday: A Loverly Look at Julie Andrews in My Fair Lady

Andrews performs a number as Eliza Doolittle on the ”Ed Sullivan Show”.

With the announcement of casting for the new Broadway revival of My Fair Lady, we thought it would be fun to flash back to the show's New York debut. In 1956, the Lerner and Loewe musical premiered with a cast headed by an actress on the rise named Julie Andrews. Andrews had made a splash on Broadway two years earlier in The Boyfriend, and this production marked her big break. Though she doesn't appear in the film adaptation, at least one of her songs has been immortalized on-screen. Here she is singing "Wouldn't It Be Loverly" on the Ed Sullivan Show a few years after the show's Broadway opening.
