Educators can receive a special honor at this year’s Tonys ceremony.

Theater teachers from around the country can now receive a Tony Award.

The Tony Awards and Carnegie Mellon University have teamed up to present the inaugural "Excellence in Theatre Education Award."

This annual award will recognize a theater educator in the United States who has demonstrated impact on the lives of students and who embodies the highest standards of the profession. A panel of judges from the American Theatre Wing, the Broadway League, and Carnegie Mellon University will select the finalists and winner.

The award finalists will be announced in the spring, and each will receive an honorarium. A single winner will be selected to receive the Excellence in Theatre Education Award onstage at Radio City Music Hall during the 69th Annual Tony Awards telecast on June 7.
