Broadway Vet Eddie Redmayne May Star in Harry Potter Spinoff Film

The Tony and Oscar winner would be teaming with J.K. Rowling on her screenwriting debut.

Tony and Oscar Award winner Eddie Redmayne is the favorite to star in a new Harry Potter spinoff film, according to Variety. The Warner Brothers movie, entitled Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, will be based on Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling's book of the same name.

J.K. Rowling will be making her screenwriting debut on Fantastic Beasts. Redmayne would play Newt Scamander, a fameous Magizoologist who authored a textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Redmayne has yet to receive an official offer from the film, which is scheduled to arrive November 18, 2016.

Redmayne is a Tony Award winner for John Logan's play Red and starred in the movie musical version of Les Misérables. In February, he won the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.

Variety reports that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be developed across mediums, including products, digital, and Pottermore.com, Rowling’s digital online experience built around the Potter books.
