Chita Rivera Receives Inaugural Latina Legend Award

The 10-time Tony nominee was last seen on Broadway in Kander and Ebb’s ”The Visit”.

On Thursday evening, two-time Tony-winning Broadway legend Chita Rivera received the first-ever Latina Legend Award from 100 Hispanic Women, Inc. at their 19th annual gala at Cipriani Wall Street.

"Not only here in New York City but throughout the country, Hispanic women are giving new strength and energy to the world economy, whether it be in the arts, medicine, law or Wall Street," said Rivera in her remarks at the ceremony. "We have made vital contributions and will continue to do so. I feel that soon we will become not 100 Hispanic Women but 100 million Hispanic women all doing daring and exceptional things. We are all part of the American dream."

Rivera earned Tony Awards for her performances in Kander and Ebb's The Rink and Kiss of the Spider Woman, and she is well known for originating roles in Bye Bye Birdie, West Side Story, and Chicago, among other classic Broadway musicals. She was last seen on Broadway in the 2015 Kander and Ebb musical The Visit, for which she earned her 10th Tony nomination. Take a look below at a photo from last night's landmark event.
