The paperback edition of Barbara Isenberg's Tradition!: The Highly Improbable, Ultimately Triumphant Broadway-to-Hollywood Story of Fiddler on the Roof, the World’s Most Beloved Musical is released today by St. Martin’s Press. The book follows the making of the musical as well as the creation of the film and the travels of Fiddler around the world.

While writing Tradition!, journalist Barbara Isenberg interviewed many of the artists who worked on the original Broadway production, the film adaptation, and significant revivals, including Harold Prince, Sheldon Harnick, Joseph Stein, Jerry Bock, Austin Pendleton, Joanna Merlin, Norman Jewison, Topol, Harvey Fierstein, and others. In addition to sharing anecdotes from the making of Fiddler on the Roof, Isenberg considers its cultural importance and resonance for such an enormous and diverse audience.

Featuring a book by Joseph Stein and a score by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, Fiddler on the Roof is inspired by Sholom Alecheim's stories of the milkman Tevye, who tries to hold on to "tradition" as the world around him and his family in the little village of Anatevka changes.

An upcoming upcoming Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof is set to begin performances November 12 in advance of a December 17 opening at the Broadway Theatre. Tony winner Bartlett Sher will direct alongside frequent collaborators Michael Yeargan (scenic design), Catherine Zuber (costume design), and Donald Holder (lighting design). The production will star five-time Tony nominee Danny Burstein and Tony nominee Jessica Hecht as Tevye and Golde, along with Alexandra Silber as Tzeitel, Alix Korey as Yente, Samantha Massell as Hodel, Ben Rappaport as Perchik, Jessica Vosk as Fruma Sarah, Aaron Young as Sasha, and Adam Kantor as Motel.
