Ariana Grande Can Still Top the Charts With Songs From Her Broadway Debut

Jason Robert Brown’s score for the musical ”13” could give the pop star her next hit.

Ariana Grande is revisiting her Broadway roots — and her popularity may shoot Jason Robert Brown to the top of the charts. Ghostlight Records has announced that it will be releasing a two-track single recorded by the pop sensation during her 2008 Broadway debut in the musical 13.

Before she rocked out with Jessie J. and Nicki Minaj, Grande offered her vocals to the peppy score that (now) three-time Tony-winning composer Jason Robert Brown (Honeymoon in Vegas) lent to the coming-of-age musical. The songs "Brand New You" and "A Little More Homework" are now available together on iTunes, offering fans a chance to hear some of the hit maker's earliest recorded work.

13 opened at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on October 5, 2008 and played a total of 105 performances. Contrary to his typical trend, Brown did not receive a Tony Award (or even a nomination) for the music and lyrics he contributed to the show. Now, over six year later, he may just have a hit on his hands.
