First Look at Anne Hathaway in Julie Taymor-Directed Grounded at the Public Theater

Hathaway plays The Pilot in George Brant’s new play.

The Public Theater has released the first production photos of Oscar winner Anne Hathaway in the current run of George Brant's Grounded. The solo show, which opens at the Anspacher Theatre on April 26 and run through May 24, is directed by two-time Tony Award winner Julie Taymor.

The play tells the story of an ace fighter pilot whose unexpected pregnancy forces her to leave her airborne career in favor of one operating military drones from a windowless trailer outside the Las Vegas desert. It had its New York premiere in 2013 at Walkerspace via Page 73 Productions. That staging starred Hannah Cabell and was directed by Ken Rus Schmoll.

Grounded marks Hathaway's first return to the Public since her performance as Viola in the 2009 Shakespeare in the Park production of Twelfth Night.

The creative team features scenic design by Riccardo Hernandez, lighting design by Christopher Akerlind, sound design by Will Pickens, projection design by Peter Nigrini, and original music and soundscapes by Elliot Goldenthal.
