Tony Award winner Alan Cumming (Cabaret) is in talks to star in the new Showtime comedy series Florent, inspired by the life of New York restauranteur Florent Morellet.

Variety reports that Florent will be set amid AIDS-ravaged New York as the openly HIV-positive Morellet helps revitalize the Meatpacking district through his restaurants and its clientele. Cumming currently stars on CBS' The Good Wife as political strategist Eli Gold.

Cumming was last seen on Broadway in Roundabout Theatre Company's revival of Cabaret and recently starred in a solo version of Macbeth. His stage credits also include Design for Living and The Threepenny Opera. Cumming received a Tony for his performance in Cabaret, as well as three Emmy nominations for his performance as Eli Gold on The Good Wife.

Patricia Resnick pens the pilot script and is executive producing with director Rosemary Rodriguez. Morellet is on board as a creative consultant.
