Designing Women Star Annie Potts to Join Broadway’s Pippin

Annie Potts, best known for her performance as Mary Jo on the cult-classic television series Designing Women, will join the Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of Pippin beginning January 21. Potts takes on the high-flying role of grandma Berthe, replacing Tovah Feldshuh, who plays her final performance January 19. The role was originated in this production by Andrea Martin, who won a Tony Award for her performance.
Potts made her Broadway debut in God of Carnage and has also been seen on stage in The Vagina Monologues, Love Letters, Charley’s Aunt, and many others. Her screen credits include GCB, Any Day Now, Ugly Betty, and the first two Toy Story films.
Currently running at the Music Box Theater, Pippin melds Stephen Schwartz and Roger O. Hirson's classic coming-of-age musical with the death-defying tricks of contemporary circus. Directed by Diane Paulus, choreographed by Chet Walker in the style of Bob Fosse, and featuring circus creations by Gypsy Snider of the circus troupe Les 7 doigts de la main, the production stars 2013 Tony winner Patina Miller, Matthew James Thomas, Terrence Mann, Charlotte d'Amboise, Rachel Bay Jones, and Erik Altemus.
