It’s the final countdown for current Rock of Ages cast members Ashley Spencer and Michele Mais, who will depart the Broadway company of the heavy metal musical at the Helen Hayes Theatre on January 20. The pair will be succeeded by Broadway veterans Kate Rockwell (Bring It On: The Musical) and Teresa Stanley (The Color Purple) beginning January 21.

Rockwell, who is currently finishing up her run as mean girl cheerleader Skylar in Bring It On, will take over the role of Sherrie Christian, a small town girl (livin’ in a lonely world) who arrives in Los Angeles to fulfill her big city dreams. The actress appeared opposite Spencer, he predecessor in the role, as finalists on the NBC reality casting series Grease: You’re The One That I Want. Rockwell made her Broadway debut in Legally Blonde and later performed in the 2009 revival of Hair.

Stanley will take over the role of big city strip club owner Justice, which she played in the musical’s first national tour. Current cast member Mais has been with the show since its world premiere production in 2006 and has played the role over 1,500 times.

Directed by Kristin Hanggi and choreographed Kelly Devine, the five-time Tony nominated Rock of Ages features a book by Chris D’Arienzo and a score that includes hits by 1980’s hair-metal bands like Night Ranger, Twisted Sister, Foreigner, Poison, REO Speedwagon, and Journey. The 2012 film adaptation starred Russell Brand, Tom Cruise, Julianne Huff, and Mary J. Blige.

The current cast of the musical, which recently celebrated its fourth anniversary on Broadway, includes Justin Matthew Sargent, Joey Calveri, Genson Blimline, Adam Dannheisser, Cody Scott Lancaster, Josephine Rose Roberts, Paul Schoeffler, Tessa Alves, Andrew Call, Tony LePage, Michael Minarik, Jennifer Rias, Cassie Silva, Andre Ward, and Neka Zang.
