Sergio Trujillo will direct and choreograph a stage version of the movie musical Flashdance, according to a report in The New York Times. The production is aiming to reach Broadway in the fall of 2012.

The show will feature original music by Robbie Roth and Robert Cary, and a book by Cary and Tom Hadley, along with songs from the film.

The movie centers on a female welder, who falls in love with a man whose family owns the steel plant where she works.

Trujillo has served as choreographer on The Addams Family, Memphis, Guys and Dolls, and Jersey Boys. In addition, he provided the musical staging for the Pultizer Prize-winning musical Next to Normal and, as previously announced, is scheduled to create the choreography for the musical Leap of Faith, which is also scheduled to open on Broadway next fall.
