Porgy and Bess, Twentieth Century, et al. Named to National Film Registry

The Library of Congress has selected 25 more films to join the National Film Registry, according to Variety.


Among the selections are the 1959 film version of the musical Porgy and Bess, starring Sidney Poitier and Dorothy Dandridge; the 1934 film version of the play Twentieth Century, starring John Barrymore and Carole Lombard,.


Other films chosen include Charlie Chaplin’s first film, The Kid, The Nicholas Brothers Family Home Movies; and Jonathan Demme’s Oscar-winning thriller The Silence of the Lambs, starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins.


Bambi, The Big Heat, Faces, Forrest Gump, The Lost Weekend, Norma Rae, and War of the Worlds were also added to the registry.
