On Thursday, December 8, the Broadway production of Lydia R. Diamond’s Stick Fly opened at the Cort Theatre.
Opening night guests included Swizz Beatz, Daniel Breaker, Taraji P. Henson, Phylicia Rashad, Gayle King, Spike Lee, Tanya Lewis Lee, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Jaleel White.
Stick Fly is a portrait of an upper class African American family vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard and explores parental expectations, sibling rivalry, and issues of class and race. The company features Rosie Benton, Dulé Hill, Mekhi Phifer, Tracie Thoms, Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Condola Rashad.
Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys composed original music for the piece, which she is also producing. Kenny Leon has directed the production.
