HERE has announced casting for Sankram’s Miranda, created and composed by Kamala Sankaram, and featuring a libretto by Sankaram with Rob Reese. Billed as a “steampunk murder-mystery chamber opera,” the work will be directed by Reese and be presented at HERE January 12-21.

The piece is framed as a reality TV taping of a program entitled “The Whole Truth,” in which the Jury (the audience) must choose one of three suspects — her mother, her father, her lover — to convict as Miranda’s murderer. Six instrumentalists recreate the last day of Miranda’s life as they sing, act and play all parts.

The cast will feature Kamala Sankaram (accordion) as Miranda Wright, Drew Fleming (electric guitar) as Cor Prater, Pat Muchmore (cello) as Izzy Wright, Rima Fand (violin) as Anjana Challapattee Wright, Ed Rosenberg (tenor sax/clarinet) as Amelia Lang, Jeff Hudgins (baritone sax/bass clarinet) as Francoise Argent, Jerry Miller as The Bailiff, and Eric Brenner as D.A.V.E.

The production will feature choreography by Lauren Yalango with Christopher Grant, set and lighting Design by Nick Francone, video design by Matt Tennie, costume design by Jacci Jaye, and sound design by Matt Schloss.
