Elizabeth Swados’ La MaMa Cantata to Receive Encore Performances

Elizabeth Swados’ new oratorio, The La MaMa Cantata, honoring the late La MaMa founder Ellen Stewart, will receive two encore performances at La MaMa, December 29 and 30 at 7:30pm. In addition, the December 30 performance will be live-streamed, allowing audiences world-wide to watch the performance.
The work is a musical depiction of the life and times of Ellen Stewart, La MaMa’s late founder and artistic director, with a text comprised of Ms. Stewart’s own words and those of others who wrote about and knew the legendary woman affectionately called “Mama.”
The piece premiered at the theater in early November, coinciding with what would have been Stewart’s 92nd birthday.
