Donna Hanover, Dakin Matthews, Jefferson Mays to Join Cast of Broadway’s Best Man

Donna Hanover, Dakin Matthews, and Jefferson Mays have joined the cast of the Broadway revival of Gore Vidal’s The Best Man, which will play the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, which will begin previews on March 6, with an opening set for April 1. Michael Wilson will direct.

The play is set at the national convention where two candidates are vying for their party’s nomination during the primary season.

The cast will also include the previously reported Candice Bergen, James Earl Jones, Angela Lansbury, John Larroquette, Eric McCormack, and Michael McKean.

The design team will include Derek McLane (set), Ken Posner (lightin), John Gromada (sound), and Ann Roth (costumes).

Hanover is a well known television personality and film actress, with theater credits including Picked, The Vagina Monologues, and Hillbilly Women. Matthews won a Drama Desk Award for his work in Henry IV on Broadway, with other Mainstem credits including A Man For All Seasons and Julius Caesar. Mays won a Tony Award for his performance in I Am My Own Wife, and is currently starring Off-Broadway in Blood and Gifts.
