Carrie Fisher will star in Hallmark Channel’s Caroling, a modern-day take on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, to air in 2012, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film is directed by Michael M. Scott.

The site reports that the story will focus on Carol Huffman (to be played by Emanuelle Vaugier), one of Chicago’s most successful book publishers and a ruthless businesswoman who has made no room in her life for personal relationships and whose staff hates her. Fisher plays the late founder of the publishing company, who takes Carol through an eye-opening journey of her past, present and future.

Carson Kressley, Olivia Cheng, and Tygh Runyan co-star in the movie, which has begun production.

Fisher is well known for her solo show, Wishful Drinking, which has played Broadway, toured around the country, and was filmed for HBO. She also starred in the film Star Wars.
