Tony Award winner Tyne Daly will play Maria Callas in Terrence McNally’s Master Class, to begin performances on May 24 at Manhattan Theatre Club’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in anticipation of an official opening on June 21. Stephen Wadsworth will direct the production. Additional casting and creative team for the production will be announced shortly.

Daly played the role, under Wadsworth’s direction, at the Kennedy Center earlier this year.

The play focuses on Callas’ famous master classes where, late in her own career, she challenges the next generation to make the same sacrifices and dare to rise to the same heights she did.

Daly won the Tony Award for Gypsy, and her many stage credits include Rabbit Hole, The Seagull, and Me, Myself, and I. She is well-known for her Emmy Award-winning roles on Judging Amy and Cagney & Lacey.
