Original Cast Recording of Brigadoon Named to the Grammy Hall of Fame

The original cast recording of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe’s musical Brigadoon is one of the recordings that has been named as a 2011 inductee into the Grammy Hall of Fame, according to a report in Variety. The album, made in 1947, features Marion Bell, David Brooks, Pamela Britton, and Lee Sullivan in the principal roles.

Among the other albums that will be inducted into the Hall of Fame are the Bill Evans Trio’s Sunday at the Village Vanguard and Purple Rain from Prince & The Revolution.

Singles that are honored in the 2011 class of inductees include two from Duke Ellington — “Do Nothin’ Till You Hear From Me” and “Ko Ko”, along with the Jackson 5’s “I’ll Be There,” Al Jolson’s “My Mammy,” The Beatles’ “Penny Lane,” Sidney Bechet’s rendition of Gershwin’s “Summertime,” and Fats Domino’s “Walking to New Orleans.”

Established in 1973 by the Recording Academy’s trustees, the Hall of Fame recognizes recordings of lasting qualitative or historical significance that are at least 25 years old. To date, the organization has honored a total of 881 titles.
