Lincoln Center has announced casting for its Broadway production of The National Theatre of Great Britain’s War Horse, to begin previews at the Vivian Beaumont Theater on March 15, with an opening set for April 14. Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris will direct.

Based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo, and adapted by Nick Stafford with the Handspring Puppet Company, the play is set during World War I as Joey, young Albert’s beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France. He’s soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary odyssey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man’s land. But Albert (played by Numrich) cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a mission to find him and bring him home.

The cast of 35 will feature Stephen James Anthony, Zach Appelman, Alyssa Breshnahan, Richard Crawford, Sanjit de Silva, Matt Doyle, Austin Durant, Joby Earle, Joel Reuben Ganz, Ariel Heller, Peter Hermann, Alex Hoeffler, Brian Lee Huynh, Jeslyn Kelly, Ian Lassiter, Tom Lee, Jonathan Christopher MacMillan, Jonathan David Martin, Boris McGiver, Seth Numrich, Prentice Onayemi, Bhavesh Patel, David Pegram, Katy Pfaffl, Stephen Plunkett, Leenya Rideout, Liam Robinson, Jude Sandy, Hannah Sloat, T. Ryder Smith, Zach Villa, Elliot Villar, Cat Walleck, Enrico D. Wey, and Madeline Yen.
