The show, which is based on the 1992 film of the same name, focuses on Rusty, a country music superstar at the height of his career who walks out of an overblown concert tour and goes on a journey to find himself -- and the love he left behind. The new musical is co-written by Peter Masterston, Steve Dorff, John Bettis, and Rex McGee.
Carlyle is currently represented on Broadway as the director/choreographer of Finian's Rainbow. Additional credits include directing and choreographing A Tale of Two Cities on Broadway and choreographing the recent Encores! production of Girl Crazy.
As previously announced, Joe Nichols will play Rusty, while Lorrie Morgan will play the role of Lula, Rusty's ruthless manager. The creative team will feature Derek McLane (sets), Ann Roth (costumes), Kevin Adams (lighting), and Acme Sound Partners (sound).
