Vanities Cast Recording Now Available Digitally; Wider Release Planned for Early 2010

The original cast recording of the Off-Broadway musical Vanities is now available digitally wherever digital music is sold, and from the Ghostlight Records website. A wider physical release is planned for early 2010.

Based on the original 1976 play by Jack Heifner, the musical features music and lyrics by David Kirshenbaum with a book by Heifner. It traces the relationship of three friends as they transition from small town girls in Texas to college students and finally grown women with careers, children, marriages, and conflicts.

The show was originally produced at TheatreWorks in Palo Alto, and played Off-Broadway at Second Stage Theatre this past summer, with both productions directed by Tony Award winner Judith Ivey, and starring Lauren Kennedy, Sarah Stiles, and Anneliese van der Pol — all three of whom are featured on the recording.

The album was produced by Grammy-winning music producer Joel Moss, and includes liner notes by Melissa Rose Bernardo of Entertainment Weekly, a synopsis by Heifner, and all the lyrics by Kirshenbaum, as well as full-color photos from the Off-Broadway production.
