Michael Dameski, Jake Evan Schwencke Join Broadway’s Billy Elliot; David Alvarez to Exit

Michael Dameski and Jake Evan Schwencke will join the cast of Broadway’s Billy Elliot in the roles of Billy and Michael, respectively. In addition, Tony Award winner David Alvarez will play his final performance as Billy on January 3, while Keean Johnson, who was previously announced to star as Michael in the national tour of Billy Elliot, will play his final Broadway performance in that role on January 15.

Based on the 2000 film of the same name, the show tells the tale of a young boy with a dream of being a dancer. The show won 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Dameski, 14, previously played Billy in the Melbourne production of Billy Elliot. His first performance date will be announced soon. Schwencke, 11, made his Broadway debut this season in Bye, Bye Birdie as Randolph, and is scheduled to play his first performance on January 16.

Alex Ko, Trent Kowalik, Liam Redhead, and Dayton Tavares also rotate in the role of Billy, while Trevor Braun shares duties as Michael. The cast also includes Kate Hennig as Mrs. Wilkinson, Gregory Jbara as Dad, Carole Shelley as Grandma, and Will Chase as Tony.
