Matthew Hydzik to Play Tony in Broadway’s West Side Story; Jeremy Jordan to Alternate

Matthew Hydzik will assume the role of Tony in the revival of West Side Story playing at the Palace Theatre beginning December 15. In addition, Jeremy Jordan will play the role on Wednesday evenings and at Sunday matinees. They will replace Matt Cavenaugh, who departs on December 13. Hydzik has been Cavenaugh’s understudy since the show began performances in New York.

Beginning on December 15, the company will also feature Wes Hart (Action), Michael Rosen (Chino), Mikey Winslow (Big Deal), and Sara Dobbs (Anybodys). The current production of West Side Story, with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, has been directed by librettist Arthur Laurents with the original Jerome Robbins choreography restaged by Joey McKneely.

Hydzik was most recently seen as Kenickie in Grease on Broadway. His other roles include Marc and Roger in Rent, Nick in Fame, and Slim in Cowboy Mouth. Jordan comes directly from the Broadway cast of Rock of Ages.
