John Kander to Be Honored at Vineyard Gala; David Hyde Pierce to Host

Tony Award winning composer John Kander will be honored by Vineyard Theatre at the company’s annual gala on March 8 at the Hudson Theater. Tony Award winner David Hyde Pierce will host the fundraising event, which will feature other performers to be announced at a later date.

Kander, with partner Fred Ebb, has won Tony Awards for Cabaret, Woman of the Year, and Kiss of the Spiderwoman. In addition, he received a Special Tony Award in 2007 “for 42 years of excellence in advancing the art of the musical theatre.” Among the team’s other scores are Flora, the Red Menace, The Happy Time, Zorba, The Act, The Rink, Steel Pier, and Curtains.

The duo’s musical The Scottsboro Boys will begin previews at the Vineyard on February 12, in anticipation of a March 10 opening. The production will be directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman and will star John Cullum, Colman Domingo, and Brandon Victor Dixon, along with Sean Bradford, Josh Breckenridge, Derrick Cobey, Rodney Hicks, Kendrick Jones, Forrest McClendon, Julius Thomas III, Sharon Washington, Cody Ryan Wise, and Christian White.
