John Cullum, Colman Domingo, and Brandon Victor Dixon will lead the cast of the new musical The Scottsboro Boys — featuring music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb and a book by David Thompson — at the Vineyard Theatre, beginning February 12, with an opening set for March 10. Tony Award winner Susan Stroman will direct this world premiere production.

The piece explores the infamous “Scottsboro” case of the 1930’s when a group of African-American teenagers were unjustly accused of attacking two white women — and the boys’ attempts to prove their innocence. The musical was previously announced for a developmental Lab Production at the Vineyard, but will now be given a fully-staged production.

The cast will also feature Sean Bradford, Josh Breckenridge, Derrick Cobey, Rodney Hicks, Kendrick Jones, Forrest McClendon, Julius Thomas III, Sharon Washington, Cody Ryan Wise, and Christian White.

The creative team will include David Loud (music director), Larry Hochman (orchestrations), Beowulf Boritt (set), Toni-Leslie James (costumes), Kevin Adams (lighting), and Peter Hylenski (sound).
