Jeffrey Solomon will perform his solo show Mother/SON in repertory with Houses on the Moon Theater Company’s De Novo, Part 1: Lil’ Silent , which Solomon curated and directed, at TBG Theatre, January 8-11.

In Mother/SON, Solomon stars as both a son and the mother who struggles to accept his sexual orientation, tracing her transformation from shell-shocked parent to the mom at the front of the Pride Parade. The piece is inspired by the writer/performer’s own relationship with his mother.

In De Novo, court transcripts, interviews, letters and other documentary sources are woven together to reconstruct the true story of Edgar Chocoy, a fourteen-year-old boy who fled his barrio in Guatemala City, when MS-13, the largest gang in Central America, put a hit on his life. He reached the United States, but was deported, and 17 days later, murdered. The case prompted a national outcry and a fundamental reconsideration about the way in which the government handles the many thousands of “alien” minors in immigration custody. The ensemble includes Jesse J. Perez, Clifford Rivera, Socorro Santiago, and Emily Joy Weiner.

Solomon’s previous works include Tara’s Crossing, Building Houses on the Moon, and Santa Claus Is Coming Out, which is currently performing at the Kirk Theatre.
