The performer first gained fame on the hit sitcom Soap. The production originally ran Off-Broadway at the Atlantic Theatre in 2004 and later played San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Boston before arriving at the Helen Hayes Theatre on Broadway, where it ran for two months and won the 2007 Tony Award for Best Special Theatrical Event.
