Charles Busch will star alongside Alison Fraser, Julie Halston, Amy Rutberg, Jennifer Van Dyck, and Jonathan Walker in a developmental production of his new play, The Divine Sister. Carl Andress will direct the production, which will play Theater for the New City, February 6-March 7.

Billed as “an outrageous comic homage to nearly every Hollywood film involving nuns,” the show tells the story of St. Veronica’s indomitable Mother Superior (Busch) who is determined to build a new school for her Pittsburgh convent. Along the way, she has to deal with a young postulant who is experiencing “visions,” sexual hysteria among her nuns, a sensitive schoolboy in need of mentoring, a mysterious nun visiting from the Mother House in Berlin, and a former suitor intent on luring her away from her vows.

Busch is the author and star of such plays as The Lady in Question, Red Scare on Sunset, Vampire Lesbians of Sodom, The Third Story, and Die, Mommie, Die! His Broadway play The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife won the Outer Circle Critics’ John Gassner Award, and received a Tony nomination for Best Play. He is also the recipient of a 2003 special Drama Desk Award for career achievement.
