The Pasadena Playhouse has announced selections for its upcoming Hothouse at the Playhouse series of free play readings. All readings are at 8pm in the Carrie Hamilton Theatre.

Lee Blessing’s Moderation, starring Lawrence Pressman and Granville van Dusen and directed by Oz Scott, will be read on December 8-9. The play focuses on the famed Roe v. Wade decision.

Up next, Academy Award nominee Angela Bassett will headline Frank Tangredi’s Pastoral, to be directed by Sheldon Epps (January 26-27). The work, about a pastor whose faith is tested by a shocking request, will receive a full production at the Playhouse in September.

The series will continue with Stephen Metcalfe’s The Tragedy of the Commons (February 9-10), Alison Moore’s American Klepto (March 16-17); Jason Aaron Goldberg’s The Confessions of Deacon Jim (April 20-21); Theresa Rebeck’s The Novelist (May 4-5); and a June reading of Nilo Cruz’s The Color of Desire.
