ABBA to Be Inducted Into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

The 1970s Swedish pop group ABBA will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in a ceremony to be held in New York on March 15, according to a report in The New York Times. The other members of the next class of Hall of Fame inductees include Genesis, Jimmy Cliff, The Hollies, and The Stooges.

ABBA — which consisted of Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Agnetha Fältskog — was responsible for such hits as “Dancing Queen,” “Money, Money, Money,” and “Winner Takes It All,” tunes which are all used — along with many other ABBA songs — in the musical Mamma Mia! In addition to penning the songs that are included in this show, Ulvaeus and Andersson wrote the music for the musicals Chess and Kristina.

In addition to the performers who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame, David Geffen, along with the songwriting teams of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil and Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry, and individual songwriters Jesse Stone, Mort Shuman and Otis Blackwell, will be honored with awards next year.
