On Monday, December 15, The Path Fund and Rockers on Broadway organized a landmark 15th anniversary reunion concert of the original Broadway cast of The Who’s Tommy at the August Wilson Theatre. Once again, the title role was magnificently played by Tony Award winner Michael Cerveris, who is currently appearing in the Public Theatre’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s Road Show.
Ensemble member Christian Hoff, director Des McAnuff, and co-star Donnie Kehr, who organized the concert, posed before the show.
Sherie Rene Scott, on her night off from The Little Mermaid, earned cheers for her re-creation of Sally Simpson.
Paul Kandel and Cheryl Freeman, who played the show’s wicked Uncle Ernie and the Acid Queen, were definite fan favorites.
Jonathan Dokuchitz portrayed Tommy’s dad, Captain Walker.
Tony nominee Marcia Mitzman, long absent from Broadway, gave a stirring performance as Mrs. Walker.
The fabulous Alice Ripley traveled up from Washington D.C., where she’s starring in the Arena Stage’s acclaimed production of Next to Normal, to take her rightful place in the ensemble.
Broadway stalwart Bill Buell, currently standing by for Richard Griffiths in Equus, was another original cast member who participated in the event.
Billy Elliot‘s David Bologna, who alternates in the role of Michael, took on the role of young Tommy.
Gregory Jbara, who stars in Billy Elliot, brought sons Zachary and Aidan to the concert.
Tony winner Christine Ebersole, who will star in the upcoming Broadway revival of Blithe Spirit, was on hand to lend her support.
Sopranos star Vincent Pastore was another celebrity attendee.
Hairspray‘s Clarke Thorell, who was a replacement in the Broadway production of Tommy, also took part in the concert.
Comic legends Anne Meara and Jerry Stiller were in attendance.
Finally, here is Stiller and Meara’s very famous son, film superstar Ben Stiller, with wife Christine Taylor.
