Director Robert Mulligan Dies at 83

Director Robert Mulligan died on Saturday, December 20 in Old Lyme, Connecticut at the age of 83.

Mulligan’s sole Broadway credit was 1958’s Comes A Day, which earned a Tony Award nomination for George C. Scott. The cast also included Judith Anderson, Brandon de Wilde, Larry Hagman, and Arthur O’Connell.

He helmed television versions of The Member of the Wedding and Horton Foote’s The Traveling Lady as well as the big-screen version of the Broadway hit Same Time, Next Year. He received an Oscar nomination for directing To Kill A Mockingbird and his other films include Love with the Proper Stranger, Inside Daisy Clover, Up the Down Staircase, and Summer of ’42.

He is survived by his wife Sandy and three children.
