Broadway Revival of Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone to Play Belasco

Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher’s production of Lincoln Center Theater’s revival of August Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come And Gone , to begin previews on March 19 and open on April 16, will play the Belasco Theater, according to the organization’s Web site.

Part of Wilson’s 10-play Pittsburgh cycle, the work is set in the year 1911 and tells the story of a man who finds himself in an unusual Pittsburgh boarding house on a journey north. The show’s 1988 Broadway production earned six Tony Award nominations, including Best Play, and L. Scott Caldwell took home the Tony as Best Featured Actress.

Sher won the 2008 Tony Award for his direction of the revival of South Pacific and was nominated for Awake and Sing! and The Light in the Piazza. He is currently represented Off-Broadway by the Playwrights Horizons production of Craig Lucas’ Prayer For My Enemy and is also the artistic director of the Intiman Theatre in Seattle.
